Importance of Community Banking

We recently asked our Facebook audience a question ... "Why do you feel community banking is important?". This is what they said:

  • Our family has been banking with Glenview State Bank since 1949 at the first original Glenview Road location. We now use the personalized service at the West Branch still on Glenview Road! All of our family still uses the Glenview State Bank. We trust the opinions and the convenience of having so many professionals to help and guide us. From family accounts too ...business accounts. .....they are our bank!!
  • My first banking experience was at my neighborhood Community Bank. They offered kid's saving accounts, encouraged savings, held community events, publish newsletters. Same dedicated staff for years with a strong neighborhood feel. Still maintain an account, and feel important in their bank family.
  • I love community banks because they are the heartbeat of towns I visit every week! When business banking and personal loan decisions are made local we all win in our communities!
  • I love community banking because it keeps banking personal. You never feel like a "number"! And I have to say that GSB does an amazing job of working hard to make it's customers feel special and make banking as easy as possible!!!
  • Community banks are vital to the communities they serve because they bring firsthand knowledge of the community to their everyday service. We know they are going to work their hardest to help local residents grow in the community and work to keep our money local. Most community banks are very involved their community and offer sponsorship and events locally.
  • Community banks are the best because they can give personalize service we are big banks cannot. They are also located in the community where their customers live and work.
  • Community banks are great because they focus on the community they're in. Funds and loans are acquired and provided to their local residents and businesses, allowing these banks to know their customers and their needs much better than larger banks can.
  • I've been banking at a community bank for the last 23 years. I opened my account when I turned 18 and still use the same account today. I know my number by heart, I know all my teller's first name, and they know me. They also know when something is erroneous on my account and work WITH me instead of AGAINST me. I had multiple joint accounts with my mother at big banks throughout the years and let me tell you, they are the WORST! We are just an account number that generates profit to them and all they want to do is hit us with charges and fees. I will never leave my community bank as I am there for them, and they are there for me
  • I love having a real person always answer the phone. Always greeted when coming in the bank. Great personal service. Thanks
  • My family has banked with GBS since I can remember (and I'm 42). I remember once when someone tried cashing a check on my mom's account with a fake ID. It didn't work because the teller knew my mom just from her interactions with the bank. You'll never get that kind of connection and service with a national bank, and that's why I still bank with GSB.
  • Community Banks that have survived the big business takeover are a rarity. The service is more personalized and friendly. I had my first car loan from Glenview State Bank when I bought car from Jennings. I remember my payments were $68.85. Lol dating myself. Was a fond memory. Go Cubs Go!
  • Community banks are awesome as they focus and care more about their customers and relationships they have, if your good to your customer you will be their primary bank for everything!
  • I'm with my community bank same location even changing names because of the personal bankers inside that take care of me. I would not change for any reason! I was at GSB until I moved to Antioch Illinois,.
  • Community Banks are vital in a village such as Glenview. The Glenview State Bank is very generous and supportive in important activities. When you call the bank you actually can speak with a banker. It's very professional yet personal care and attention the customers receive are second to none. Thank you GSB
  • There is nothing better than big bank amenities with small bank customer service! Customers are not just an account number to GSB. We 💚 GSB. always.
  • Community banks are like family. They support the community, they watch our kids grown up (yearly visits with Easter bunny & santa), they help us with big financial events (buy a house, new car, or big wedding), and there is a real person who answers the phone. ❤️ ❤️
  • I've been with GBS since 1995, and have loved being apart of this community bank! Always helpful, always nice! Even though they are small they have great technology for those who like using it, yet for those who don't, you can still go in and talk to a very nice human!
  • Community Banks are the corner stone of a town. Not only to support the small businesses but for the families. Fond memories of bringing my boys there to open their first savings account-so sad when they were old enough to take me off their account. Proud to support Glenview State Bank and all small businesses in Glenview.
  • I've been with GSB over 30 years. They're fantastic. Worst bank experience ever was with BOA. I won't do business with mega-banks.
  • Banking should be convenient. It's great to have a Community Bank where the staff knows you.
  • Community Banks are "old school". They are personable and have a warm, familiar feeling about them. Makes you feel like you have been banking there for years....
  • Favorite amenity of GSB...a person answers when you call 729-1900....
  • In these days of 'too big to fail' banks it's nice to have a strong community bank you can count on - Glenview State Bank!
  • Community Banks help the neighborhood and are nice convenient place to do your banking
  • Community banks are important because it helps by building its community and keeping it strong
  • Love the extra special attention that I get! It's almost like cheers! Everybody knows my name!
  • Community Banks build relationships with the area residents and businesses. Service is personal. The bankers are professional. It is a perfect combination.
  • Community banks are the essence of small businesses and keep the community together
  • Community banks are more committed to the local community they serve. Customer service is friendlier & seems more concerned about their customer's needs. Thanks.
  • Community banks are not only convenient but super friendly. They know customer service!
  • They are friendly and personable. They work with each person’s needs and offer many other assets.
  • Community banks are the pulse of their hometowns. Making loans to small businesses, providing financial advice for young savers, adding the personal touch to all your services, supporting local charitable causes: all possible because of community banking!
  • I love community banks because everyone treats you as a special person and not a number! Go Cubs
  • Community banks give more personalized service. You're not just an account number! I've been banking at Glenview State Bank since I moved here in 2001. When I call the bank, a real live person answers - I LOVE it!!
  • Community banks support activities and the people close by. They are perceived as the little guy looking out for your neighbor
  • Community Reinvestment Act(ions)!!!...great partnerships to strengthen the communities we live in for all...
  • GSB are the only community banks with a coin counter!! So awesome!
  • Community banks are critical in this time of massive 'big bank' corruption. GSB answers its phone (a real human). If you need help, you never hear 'that's not my department.' GSB participates in and serves the community, and I'm pleased to have banked there for 27 years.
  • Community banks help the smaller family business in the community.
  • Community Banks build good customer relationships.
  • Quality service at its Best!
  • Community banks make a town feel like its home. They take a personal interest in their customers and are part of the backbone and fabric of the community. They care and give back to the town.
  • Bank local ! Keep your money in Glenview. I do!
  • Better service
  • Community banks keep our money in the community. Keep your money local - use community bank - use Glenview State Bank!
  • I started banking at Glenview State Bank when I was probably 6 years old. I had a savings account. Two years ago, one of my credit cards was bought out by Bank of America, which happens to be in Carillon Square, which is walking distance from my front door. I went there to deal with an issue with the card, and while I was there, they tried to get me to open a checking account (a very hard sell). I told them that I have been banking at Glenview State Bank for, at that time, 54 years and have never had an issue, like the one I am having now with BOA bank. Community banks know who you are and ask how you are, and laugh with you when you tell them that you are cashing another check because you didn't win money at bingo at St. Catherine's last night. Thank you for being my community bank.
