Importance of Community Banking

  • Where do I begin? I guess one of the things is the atmosphere of the bank in general. I have dealt with bankers on many different levels at GSB and ALL of them have been pleasant, efficient, and fruitful. Everyone is always friendly and willing to serve the bank patrons with authentic cheerfulness and pride. I love the patriotism of the lobby decor. I never consider banking a "chore" when I deal with GSB. I am always kept updated about current financial issues and other bank changes and/or updates. The atmosphere is both professional and friendly. A great combination that keeps me coming back.

My family also has accounts with Glenview State and now with the addition of the Mount Prospect State Bank my employer has moved the business accounts to GSB/MSB. The hours are so convenient for deposits on my way into the office and Linda Larson is my favorite employee. I am usually at the drive up at 7 am Monday-Saturday and always enjoy chatting with Linda. That personal touch is something the national chains just can't compete with. Looking forward to many more years with GSB/ MSB.

  • I luv GSB! Unfortunately have been hacked a few times on my debt card... I usually send a message on the app late at night. I have had many 6:30 am conversations with a customer service person who solves my problem immediately. This type of service is unprecedented and I would never go back to a big box bank!

  • First of all, a human answers the phone - how unique! And we know our banker and she remembers us when we call. We are not just a number in the system. The on-line banking is user-friendly and we can accomplish everything from our desk at home in the Chicago area, as well as from our home in Hawaii. No complaints - only kudos!

  • I have been banking with GSB since I was a small child living in Glenview when my mother helped me open my first savings account. I've been with GSB so long that I've had to update my "signature card" three times due to my signature changing as I aged! Now that I am older, I truly appreciate banking local with GSB as I am treated as a valued customer and often am recognized. When settling my mother's estate, all of the staff at GSB were helpful and understanding. I don't think you can get that from one of the big nationwide banks. Even though I don't live in Glenview now, I still bank with GSB and would never think of changing ... it is worth the drive!

  • My local bank (GSB) alerted me to a Craig’s List scam that could have cost me $1750. The tellers checked the validity of a cashiers check. It was fraudulent. When I was confused about the ATM machine an officer WALKED ME OUT to the ATM and I was given new confidence. This is the most caring, ungreedy, patient bank in the whole nation. You can take away all my worldly benefits but leave my GSB alone. If I win please give the prize to a more needy recipient.

  • Banking local is not important to me...banking with GSB is! I tell everyone I can, I love this bank. Nothing seems personal anymore, everything is automated...except here. I call and I get a person...and if I need to be transferred, it's usually to another live person! Amazing! But it's the people that make this bank so great. David has spoken to me personally many times, no customer is too small. This bank makes me feel safe and secure. My husband works for the Village of Glenview, and I joined him in banking here when we got married back in 1996. I've never regretted it and we'll never leave!!   • Banking Locally: Well, I do not always visit the main bank or one of the many drive thru's, but GSB's Internet banking must be among the BEST. Whenever I can, I do visit the bank and see all of the friendly faces.   • I like going somewhere where the people have been there for a long period and recognize you when you come in and I love dealing with people, not machines. The banking business is a people business. Any of the 50 or so banks in town can do the same thing for the same price and the difference is in the people and the way they operate. The fact that I do not see turnover tells you why they treat the customers so well. They are obviously also treated well and it shows in the way they do there job. Keep it up.
  • I love GSB! If you have an issue and call, you always get to talk to a real person -- at the bank -- not someone in Timbuktu. If you have an issue, it is always resolved. If have never had one interaction with anyone in the bank that was less than perfect. They listen, they respond, they're pleasant. One fellow actually came out to the drive-through to show me how to use the new ATM there. The Executive Vice President responded to an email. I live in Chicago so they're a bit far from me, but there is a free ATM about 5 blocks from me. I recommend them to everyone I know. Really...I love GSB!!

  • I opened checking & savings accounts @ GSB shortly after we moved from Elk Grove Village to Morton Grove in 1995. Over time we transferred our home mortgage to GSB & opened a mortgage Line Of Credit as well, & refinanced our house as our needs changed. We have had several mortgage refinances & LOCs in the last 23 years; GSB has always been very competitive with their rates & very straightforward to work with. I had an adjustable LOC with GSB for almost 10 yrs, & it never adjusted (a low 3% the whole duration of the loan!). ATMs are convenient & close by, there are no ATM/checking/savings bogus fees to deal with as long as you follow the rules, & the employees are sincere & great to work with. I also like that it is a local hometown bank that has not been gobbled up by a larger corporation. The GSB communications reinforce the fact that the employees do indeed care about their customers & desire to build long term relationships with the surrounding communities. I would highly recommend GSB to anyone needing a bank that will serve their needs now & well into the future!
  • I like GSB community banking because of the convenient business hours offered. Also, you can see a familiar face who you know and resolve any issues on a timely basis - usually the same day. I wish GSB would extend their Friday business hours to 6pm, however, I love this local community bank.

  • I'm 58 years old. I opened my first savings account at GSB when I was 12 years old or so. I had cut as a kid lawns and opened it with $8.05. I found the nickel in the parking lot on my way into open the account. Over the years I have had nothing but positive customer service experiences with GSB. When my parents were being moved into a nursing home and I needed documentation of their accounts the staff was nothing short of spectacular providing customer service at a stressful time of my life. Thank you Rosemary. I like when I call and I get a real person on the phone who is well trained and can answer any question I may have. As I approach retirement I will be leaving this state.   • I have been a customer of Glenview State Bank since 1970. I remember walking into the original bank site on Glenview Road and opening up a checking and savings account. I have always felt at home with GSB. Through out the years I have never had a bad experience. Everyone has been extremely helpful and courteous. It has never occurred to me to change banks. Community is what it's all about and that's what GSB is to me

  • Our family has been banking with Glenview State Bank since 1949 at the first original Glenview Road location. We now use the personalized service at the West Branch still on Glenview Road! All of our family still uses the Glenview State Bank. We trust the opinions and the convenience of having so many professionals to help and guide us. From family accounts too ...business accounts. .....they are our bank!!
  • My first banking experience was at my neighborhood Community Bank. They offered kid's saving accounts, encouraged savings, held community events, publish newsletters. Same dedicated staff for years with a strong neighborhood feel. Still maintain an account, and feel important in their bank family.

  • I've been banking at a community bank for the last 23 years. I opened my account when I turned 18 and still use the same account today. I know my number by heart, I know all my teller's first name, and they know me. They also know when something is erroneous on my account and work WITH me instead of AGAINST me. I had multiple joint accounts with my mother at big banks throughout the years and let me tell you, they are the WORST! We are just an account number that generates profit to them and all they want to do is hit us with charges and fees. I will never leave my community bank as I am there for them, and they are there for me

  • My family has banked with GBS since I can remember (and I'm 42). I remember once when someone tried cashing a check on my mom's account with a fake ID. It didn't work because the teller knew my mom just from her interactions with the bank. You'll never get that kind of connection and service with a national bank, and that's why I still bank with GSB.

  • I started banking at Glenview State Bank when I was probably 6 years old. I had a savings account. Two years ago, one of my credit cards was bought out by Bank of America, which happens to be in Carillon Square, which is walking distance from my front door. I went there to deal with an issue with the card, and while I was there, they tried to get me to open a checking account (a very hard sell). I told them that I have been banking at Glenview State Bank for, at that time, 54 years and have never had an issue, like the one I am having now with BOA bank. Community banks know who you are and ask how you are, and laugh with you when you tell them that you are cashing another check because you didn't win money at bingo at St. Catherine's last night.
